Bellsprout is a phenomenal Grass and Poison-typed Pokemon. Bellsprout is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities back in the Gold/Silver Pokemon games. Bellsprout is weak to Fire, Flying, Ice, and Psychic-typed attacks.

Bellsprout is a pretty decent Physical Sweeper. The purpose of this moveset is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Previously before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Sludge Bomb is a physical STAB-boosted 90-base power Poison-type move (30% chance to poison the target).
Acid is a physical STAB-boosted 40-base power Poison-type move (10% chance to lower the target's defense by 1 stage).
Double-Edge is a physical 120-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Return is a physical 0-base power Normal-type move (max 102 power at maximum happiness).
Leech Life is a physical 20-base power Bug-type move (Bellsprout recovers 50% of the damage dealt).
Synthesis is a status move (heals your Bellsprout by a weather-dependent amount).
