Competitive Information for Ditto [Red/Blue]
Evolutions / Family:
Movesets for Singles
What is a good competitive moveset for Ditto? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Red/Blue Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.
Ditto is a pretty decent Normal-typed Pokemon. It's frequent to find yourself dealing with Ditto when battling in the 1st generation meta. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Ditto's only type-related weakness is Fighting.
Physical Sweeper Ditto (Retro)
Ditto is a remarkable Physical Sweeper. It tries to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. The rules of gen-one were quite varied from today. In the old days prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
Special Sweeper Ditto (Retro)
Ditto is a remarkable Special Sweeper. The purpose of this moveset is to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Things definately worked differently in the first generation. Don't forget before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
Item: Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 Hp / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Ditto Special Wall (Identity Thief)
Ditto is an extraordinary Special Wall. It is meant to take a hefty amount of hits from special attacks while dealing some decent damage. Choice Scarf will increase Ditto's speed by 1.5x but will lock you into the first move you pick. Literally anything that tries to set up with Swords Dance, Shell Smash, Nasty Plot, Agility, Rock Polish, Work Up, Tail Glow, or Dragon Dance are cloned and turned on their creators. While Ditto can't as easily beat Calm Mind, Quiver Dance, or Bulk Up Pokemon it can still put some of them under pressure. Imposter effectively means that at any given moment you are a copy of the Pokemon you were facing when Ditto first entered the field. Besides your HP and held item Ditto becomes your opponent, including all its stat changes. This is where the Choice Scarf come into effect. Imposter will copy your opponent's stats but Choice Scarf guarantees you will be faster than them (unless they also run Scarf, in which case you speed tie).
