Ekans is a fabulous Physical Sweeper in single battles. It is primarily designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Out of the original 151, Ekans was quite something to try to play with in the first generation meta. In the dark days prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil). ♦ Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target). ♦ Earthquake is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move that deals a serious amount of damage. ♦ Dig is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (digs underground turn 1, strikes turn 2). ♦ Rock Slide is a physical 75-base power Rock-type move that deals damage. ♦ Acid is a physical STAB-boosted 40-base power Poison-type move (33% chance to lower the target's defense by 1 stage). ♦ Poison Sting is a physical STAB-boosted 15-base power Poison-type move (20% chance to poison the target).
