What is a good competitive moveset for Metapod? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Sword/Shield Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Sword/Shield generation metagame.
Metapod is a stupendous Bug-typed Pokemon. Metapod is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. Metapod is weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock-typed attacks.

Physical Sweeper Metapod (Shed Skin)
Metapod is a pretty decent Physical Sweeper for single battles. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Life Orb boosts the power of Metapod's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Shed Skin, Metapod has a 33% chance to have its status cured at the end of each turn. With a Silver Powder equipped to it, Metapod's bug-type attacks have 1.2x power.

Metapod is an outstanding Special Sweeper for single battles. The purpose of this moveset is to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Throat Spray activates when a Pokemon uses a sound-based move (in this case Snore) and raises Metapod's special attack stat by 2 stages. Life Orb boosts the power of Metapod's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Shed Skin, Metapod has a 33% chance to have its status cured at the end of each turn.

Metapod Physical Wall (Lvl 100 Madness)
Metapod is popular Physical Wall for single battles. It is designed to take a large amount of physical hits while dealing some decent damage. Metapod is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield until Eviolte was added to the mix. If Eviolite is held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, it will raises the Defense and Special Defense of that Pokemon by 50%. With Shed Skin, Metapod has a 33% chance to have its status cured at the end of each turn. So they say Metapod is weak as water. Time for revenge. If you can set up an iron defense, you can tank stone edges from Garchomp. WOW!!! Just...Don't get crit.
