What is a good competitive moveset for Nidoran-f? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Gold/Silver Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Gold/Silver generation metagame.
Nidoran is a marvelous Poison-typed Pokemon. Nidoran is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities back in the Gold/Silver Pokemon games. Nidoran's only type-related weaknesses are Ground and Psychic.

Physical Sweeper Nidoran-F (Retro)
Nidoran is a decent Physical Sweeper. It's purpose is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Don't forget back before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type. Nidoran is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield without an Eviolite attached. If Eviolite is held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, it will raises the Defense and Special Defense of that Pokemon by 50%. Focus Sash helps protect Nidoran from being one-shotted and allowing it to atleast use a crucial move when brought out.
♦ Return is a physical 0-base power Normal-type move (max 102 power at maximum happiness).
♦ Double Kick is a physical 30-base power Fighting-type move (hits 2 times in one turn).
♦ Poison Sting is a physical STAB-boosted 15-base power Poison-type move (30% chance to poison the target).
♦ Mud-Slap is a physical 20-base power Ground-type move (100% chance to lower the target's accuracy by 1 stage).

Special Sweeper Nidoran-F (Retro)
Nidoran is a phenomenal Special Sweeper. It's primary goal is to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Remember before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type. Nidoran is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield until Eviolite was attached to it. If Eviolite is held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, it will raises the Defense and Special Defense of that Pokemon by 50%.
