What is a good competitive moveset for Omanyte? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Gold/Silver Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Gold/Silver generation metagame.


Omanyte is an awesome Rock and Water-typed Pokemon. Omanyte is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities back in the Gold/Silver Pokemon games. Omanyte is weak to Electric, Fighting, Grass, and Ground-typed attacks.

Special Sweeper Omanyte (Retro)

Omanyte is an awesome Special Sweeper. This moveset attempts to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Years before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type. Omanyte is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield until Eviolite was attached to it. If Eviolite is held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, it will raises the Defense and Special Defense of that Pokemon by 50%. Focus Sash helps protect Omanyte from being one-shotted and allowing it to atleast use a crucial move when brought out.

Surf is a special STAB-boosted 95-base power Water-type move that deals a hefty amount of damage.
Bubble Beam is a special STAB-boosted 65-base power Water-type move (10% chance to lower the target's speed by 1 stage).
Ice Beam is a special 95-base power Ice-type move (10% chance to freeze the target).
Aurora Beam is a special 65-base power Ice-type move (10% chance to lower the target's attack by 1 stage).
Bite is a special 60-base power Dark-type move (30% chance to flinch the target).
Thief is a special 40-base power Dark-type move (if your Omanyte has no item, it steals the target's).
Protect is a status move (prevents moves from affecting your Omanyte this turn).
