What is a good competitive moveset for Gastly? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Red/Blue Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.
Gastly is an awesome Ghost and Poison-typed Pokemon. Gastly is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Gastly is weak to Grass, Ice, and Psychic-typed attacks.
Gastly is an astounding Special Sweeper in single battles. It attempts to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. The original Red/Blue Pokemon had alot to deal with on the battle field. In the old days before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Thunderbolt is a special 95-base power Electric-type move (10% chance to paralyze the target). ♦ Psychic is a special 90-base power Psychic-type move (33% chance to lower the target's special by 1 stage). ♦ Mega Drain is a special 40-base power Grass-type move (Gastly recovers 50% of the damage dealt). ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target).

Note: The damage listed here under Versus is not actually calculated using the in-game damage formula. It is simply calculated using typing weaknesses and resistances from the selected type-matchup modifier along with STAB (if applied) to help sort through and give a general idea as to how powerful certain moves might be towards that selected typing after modifiers are applied. Several moves listed here may have additional effects that might alter actual damage output which are not factored on this specific list. Use damage calculators to find actual damage amounts.
