Movesets for Singles

What is a good competitive moveset for Spearow? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Red/Blue Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.

Physical Sweeper Spearow (Retro)

Spearow is an interesting Physical Sweeper. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. First generation Pokemon had alot of struggles to deal with. Previously before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Double-Edge is a physical STAB-boosted 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Rage is a physical STAB-boosted 20-base power Normal-type move (lasts forever. raises Spearow's attack by 1 stage when hit).
Drill Peck is a physical STAB-boosted 80-base power Flying-type move that deals a large amount of damage.
Sky Attack is a physical STAB-boosted 140-base power Flying-type move (charges turn 1. hits turn 2).
Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target).
Whirlwind is a status move (no competitive use).
