Ivysaur is a pretty decent Special Sweeper. It tries to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. In the dark days before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type. Ivysaur is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield until it was realized Eviolite would make it quite viable. If Eviolite is held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, it will raises the Defense and Special Defense of that Pokemon by 50%. Focus Sash helps protect Ivysaur from being one-shotted and allowing it to atleast use a crucial move when brought out. Life Orb boosts the power of Ivysaur's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Overgrow, at 1/3 or less of its max hp Ivysaur's grass-type attacks have 1.5x power.

Petal Dance is a special STAB-boosted 70-base power Grass-type move (lasts 2-3 turns. confuses your Ivysaur afterwards).
Solar Beam is a special STAB-boosted 120-base power Grass-type move (charges turn 1. hits turn 2. no charge in sunlight).
