What is a good competitive moveset for Piplup? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in X/Y Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the X/Y generation metagame.
Piplup is a stupendous Water-typed Pokemon. Piplup is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. Piplup can be quite a contender in the LC tier (Little Cup). Piplup's only type-related weaknesses are Electric and Grass.

Physical Sweeper Piplup (Defiant)
Piplup is a stupendous Physical Sweeper. It's primary goal is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Choice Band will increase the damage of Piplup's physical moves by 1.5x at the cost of locking you into the first move you pick. Life Orb boosts the power of Piplup's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Defiant, Piplup's attack is raised by 2 for each of its stats that is lowered by a foe.
♦ Dive is a physical STAB-boosted 80-base power Water-type move (dives underwater turn 1, strikes turn 2).
♦ Return is a physical 0-base power Normal-type move (max 102 power at maximum happiness).
♦ Secret Power is a physical 70-base power Normal-type move (effect varies with terrain. (30% paralysis chance)).
♦ Drill Peck is a physical 80-base power Flying-type move that deals a large amount of damage.
♦ Pluck is a physical 60-base power Flying-type move (Piplup steals and eats the target's berry).
♦ Brick Break is a physical 75-base power Fighting-type move (destroys screens, unless the target is immune).
