From the original 151, few Pokemon could compare to Magmar at the start of the Pokemon metagame. In the old days prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil). ♦ Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target). ♦ Seismic Toss is a physical 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Magmar's level. Can hit ghost types). ♦ Counter is a physical 0-base power Fighting-type move (if hit by physical attack, returns double damage). ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target). ♦ Substitute is a status move (Magmar takes 1/4 its max hp to put in a substitute).
