Persian is a wonderful Physical Sweeper in single battles. It's goal is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. The game was competely different back in Generation 1. Prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical STAB-boosted 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil). ♦ Body Slam is a physical STAB-boosted 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target). ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target). ♦ Substitute is a status move (Persian takes 1/4 its max hp to put in a substitute). ♦ Growl is a status move (lowers the target's attack by 1 stage).

Persian is an interesting Special Sweeper in single battles. The purpose of this moveset is to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Gen1 meta was a totally different monster. Remember prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
