Movesets for Singles

What is a good competitive moveset for Slowpoke? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Red/Blue Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.

Slowpoke is a decent Water and Psychic-typed Pokemon. Slowpoke is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Slowpoke is weak to Bug, Electric, and Grass-typed attacks.

Physical Sweeper Slowpoke (Retro)

Slowpoke is a pretty decent Physical Sweeper. This moveset is designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. In gen one, Slowpoke played quite differently. Prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target).
Earthquake is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move that deals a high amount of damage.
Dig is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (digs underground turn 1, strikes turn 2).
Thunder Wave is a status move (paralyzes the target).
Reflect is a status move (while active, your Slowpoke's defense is doubled).
