The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.


Wartortle is an awesome Water-typed Pokemon. Wartortle is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Wartortle's only type-related weaknesses are Electric and Grass.

Physical Sweeper Wartortle (Retro)

Wartortle is a pretty decent Physical Sweeper. It is meant to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Out of the original 151, Wartortle was quite something to try to play with in the first generation meta. Before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target).
Dig is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (digs underground turn 1, strikes turn 2).
Seismic Toss is a physical 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Wartortle's level. can hit ghost types).
Counter is a physical 0-base power Fighting-type move (if hit by physical attack, returns double damage).
Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target).
