Wailord is a spectacular Water-typed Pokemon. It's almost common to find yourself dealing with Wailord when battling in the 8th generation meta. Wailord's only type-related weaknesses are Electric and Grass.

Physical Sweeper Wailord (Water Veil)
Wailord is a decent Physical Sweeper for single battles. It tries to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Choice Band will increase the damage of Wailord's physical moves by 1.5x at the cost of locking you into the first move you pick. Life Orb boosts the power of Wailord's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Water Veil, Wailord cannot be burned. Gaining this ability while burned cures it. Avalanche was added to provide additional threat coverage.

◆ Liquidation is a physical STAB-boosted 85-base power Water-type move (20% chance to lower the target's defense by 1 stage).

◆ Avalanche is a physical 60-base power Ice-type move (power doubles if Wailord is damaged by the target).

Wailord is an astounding Special Sweeper for single battles. It tries to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Throat Spray activates when a Pokemon uses a sound-based move (in this case Hyper Voice) and boosts Wailord's special attack stat by 2 stages. Life Orb boosts the power of Wailord's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Water Veil, Wailord cannot be burned. Gaining this ability while burned cures it.

Wailord is an awesome Special Tank for single battles. It was designed to take a decent amount of hits from special attacks while dealing some decent damage. With Pressure, if Wailord is the target of a foe's move that move loses one additional pp. This Pokemon is a very good option to use during Trick Room situations due to it's super slow speed stat.With a Wacan Berry equipped to it, halves damage taken from a supereffective electric-type attack then the Wacan Berry gets consumed.
