What is a good competitive moveset for Magby? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in X/Y Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the X/Y generation metagame.
Magby is a wonderful Fire-typed Pokemon. Magby is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. Magby can be quite a contender in the LC tier (Little Cup). Magby is weak to Ground, Rock, and Water-typed attacks.

Physical Sweeper Magby (Flame Body)
Magby is a wonderful Physical Sweeper. This moveset is designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Life Orb boosts the power of Magby's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Flame Body, 30% chance a pokemon making contact with Magby will be burned.
♦ Fire Punch is a physical STAB-boosted 75-base power Fire-type move (10% chance to burn the target).
♦ Double-Edge is a physical 120-base power Normal-type move (has 33% recoil).
♦ Return is a physical 0-base power Normal-type move (max 102 power at maximum happiness).
♦ Thunder Punch is a physical 75-base power Electric-type move (10% chance to paralyze the target).
♦ Brick Break is a physical 75-base power Fighting-type move (destroys screens, unless the target is immune).
♦ Karate Chop is a physical 50-base power Fighting-type move (high critical hit ratio).

Magby is a sensational Special Sweeper. It's primary goal is to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Choice Specs will increase the damage of Magby's special moves by 1.5x but will lock you into the first move you pick. Life Orb boosts the power of Magby's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Flame Body, 30% chance a pokemon making contact with Magby will be burned.

♦ Psychic is a special 90-base power Psychic-type move (10% chance to lower the target's special defense by 1 stage).
