Hitmonchan is typically seen in the UU tier (Underused). There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Hitmonchan's only type-related weaknesses are Flying and Psychic.

Hitmonchan is an outstanding Physical Sweeper in single battles. It is designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. In gen one, Hitmonchan played quite differently. Prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil). ♦ Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target). ♦ Seismic Toss is a physical STAB-boosted 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Hitmonchan's level. Can hit ghost types). ♦ Counter is a physical STAB-boosted 0-base power Fighting-type move (if hit by physical attack, returns double damage). ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target). ♦ Substitute is a status move (Hitmonchan takes 1/4 its max hp to put in a substitute).
