Movesets for Singles

What is a good competitive moveset for Scyther? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Gold/Silver Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Gold/Silver generation metagame.

Scyther is a wonderful Bug and Flying-typed Pokemon. Scyther is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities back in the Gold/Silver Pokemon games. Scyther is weak to Electric, Fire, Flying, Ice, and Rock-typed attacks.

Wing Attack is a physical STAB-boosted 60-base power Flying-type move that deals damage.
Steel Wing is a physical 70-base power Steel-type move (10% chance to raise your Scyther's defense by 1 stage).
Rock Smash is a physical 20-base power Fighting-type move (50% chance to lower the target's defense by 1 stage).
