The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.


Psyduck is an outstanding Water-typed Pokemon. Psyduck is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Psyduck's only type-related weaknesses are Electric and Grass.

Physical Sweeper Psyduck (Retro)

Psyduck is a wonderful Physical Sweeper. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Generation one was a completely different game from what it is now. In the dark days prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target).
Dig is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (digs underground turn 1, strikes turn 2).
Seismic Toss is a physical 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Psyduck's level. can hit ghost types).
Counter is a physical 0-base power Fighting-type move (if hit by physical attack, returns double damage).
Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target).

Psyduck is a stupendous Special Sweeper. It is designed to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. First generation Pokemon had alot of struggles to deal with. Remember before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Surf is a special STAB-boosted 95-base power Water-type move that deals a substantial amount of damage.
Bubble Beam is a special STAB-boosted 65-base power Water-type move (33% chance to lower the target's speed by 1 stage).
Blizzard is a special 120-base power Ice-type move (10% chance to freeze the target).
Ice Beam is a special 95-base power Ice-type move (10% chance to freeze the target).
Confusion is a special 50-base power Psychic-type move (10% chance to confuse the target).
