Golduck is an astounding Water-typed Pokemon. It's super common to find yourself dealing with Golduck when battling in the 1st generation meta. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Golduck's only type-related weaknesses are Electric and Grass.

Golduck is a pretty decent Physical Sweeper. It attempts to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Things definately worked differently in the first generation. In the old days prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Hyper Beam is a physical 150-base power Normal-type move (can't move next turn if target or sub is not koed).
Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Dig is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (digs underground turn 1, strikes turn 2).
Seismic Toss is a physical 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Golduck's level. can hit ghost types).
Counter is a physical 0-base power Fighting-type move (if hit by physical attack, returns double damage).
Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target).
