Clefable is a stupendous Normal-typed Pokemon. It's a normal sight to see Clefable out in the 1st generation battlefield. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Clefable's only type-related weakness is Fighting.

Clefable is an astounding Physical Sweeper. It tries to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Out of the original 151, Clefable was quite something to try to play with in the first generation meta. Prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical STAB-boosted 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
♦ Seismic Toss is a physical 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Clefable's level. can hit ghost types).
♦ Counter is a physical 0-base power Fighting-type move (if hit by physical attack, returns double damage).
♦ Defense Curl is a status move (raises your Clefable's defense by 1 stage).
♦ Thunder Wave is a status move (paralyzes the target).

Clefable is a phenomenal Special Sweeper. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. Things definately worked differently in the first generation. In the old days before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Ice Beam is a special 95-base power Ice-type move (10% chance to freeze the target).
♦ Thunderbolt is a special 95-base power Electric-type move (10% chance to paralyze the target).
♦ Psychic is a special 90-base power Psychic-type move (33% chance to lower the target's special by 1 stage).
♦ Bubble Beam is a special 65-base power Water-type move (33% chance to lower the target's speed by 1 stage).
