Muk is a pretty decent Poison-typed Pokemon. Muk are common Pokemon to see in the RB metagame. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Muk is weak to Bug, Ice, and Psychic-typed attacks.

Muk is an awesome Physical Sweeper in single battles. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Generation one was a completely different game from what it is now. Before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Sludge is a physical STAB-boosted 65-base power Poison-type move (40% chance to poison the target). ♦ Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target). ♦ Hyper Beam is a physical 150-base power Normal-type move (can't move next turn if target or sub is not koed). ♦ Acid Armor is a status move (raises your Muk's defense by 2 stages). ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target).
