The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Red/Blue generation metagame.


Pikachu is a marvelous Electric-typed Pokemon. Pikachu is not a Pokemon anyone usually expects sees on the battlefield. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokemon games. Pikachu's only type-related weakness is Ground.

Physical Sweeper Pikachu (Retro)

Pikachu is a notable Physical Sweeper. It's primary goal is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Generation one was a completely different game from what it is now. Years before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.

Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil).
Body Slam is a physical 85-base power Normal-type move (30% chance to paralyze the target).
Seismic Toss is a physical 1-base power Fighting-type move (damage = Pikachu's level. can hit ghost types).
Fly is a physical 70-base power Flying-type move (flies up on first turn, then strikes the next turn).
Thunder Wave is a status move (paralyzes the target).
