What is a good competitive moveset for Forretress? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Black/White Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Black/White generation metagame.
Forretress is a decent Bug and Steel-typed Pokemon. It's frequent to see Forretress show up as a Black/White opponent. Forretress can usually be found in the OU tier (Overused). Forretress's only type-related weakness is Fire.

Physical Wall Forretress (Popular/Trending)
Forretress is an outstanding Physical Wall. It attempts to take a nice amount of physical hits while dealing some decent damage. Leftovers are always a great recovery option to ensure Forretress last longer regaining it's stamina every turn. With Sturdy, if Forretress is at full hp it survives one hit with at least 1 hp. immune to ohko.

Physical Sweeper Forretress (Overcoat)
Forretress is a fabulous Physical Sweeper. This moveset is designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Focus Sash helps protect Forretress from being one-shotted and allowing it to atleast use a crucial move when brought out. Life Orb boosts the power of Forretress's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Overcoat, Forretress is immune to damage from sandstorm or hail.
♦ Frustration is a physical 0-base power Normal-type move (max 102 power at minimum happiness).
♦ Earthquake is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (hits adjacent pokemon).
♦ Drill Run is a physical 80-base power Ground-type move (high critical hit ratio).
♦ Bug Bite is a physical STAB-boosted 60-base power Bug-type move (Forretress steals and eats the target's berry).
♦ Rock Slide is a physical 75-base power Rock-type move (30% chance to flinch the foes).
♦ Rollout is a physical 30-base power Rock-type move (power doubles with each hit. repeats for 5 turns).

Forretress Double Wall (Hazard Spinner)
Forretress is an interesting Double Wall. It's purpose is to have enough defenses and bulk to take both physical and special hits. Leftovers are always a great recovery option to ensure Forretress last longer regaining it's life every turn. With Sturdy, if Forretress is at full hp it survives one hit with at least 1 hp. immune to ohko. My first spinner and my hazard layer. Forretress is my favorite pokemon, but unfortunately he really isn't the best mon out there. He does have a nice niche though that he can come into many choiced physical attacks and outraging dragons and set up lots and lots of field hazards. It's good ferrothorn never got Rapid Spin or forretress would be completely outclassed.
