With Sturdy, if Forretress is at full hp it survives one hit with at least 1 hp. Immune to ohko. With a Normalium Z equipped to it, if Forretress has a normal move, this item allows it to use a normal z-move. With a Occa Berry equipped to it, halves damage taken from a supereffective fire-type attack then the Occa Berry gets consumed.

Taking on single battles? Forretress is a pretty decent Double Wall. The objective of this moveset is to provide strong resistance against both physical and special moves. Leftovers are always a great recovery option to ensure Forretress last longer regaining it's HP every turn. With Sturdy, if Forretress is at full hp it survives one hit with at least 1 hp. Immune to ohko. My first spinner and my hazard layer. Forretress is my favorite pokemon, but unfortunately he really isn't the best mon out there. He does have a nice niche though that he can come into many choiced physical attacks and outraging dragons and set up lots and lots of field hazards. It's good ferrothorn never got Rapid Spin or forretress would be completely outclassed.
