What is a good competitive moveset for Metagross? These builds have been optimized for Pokemon competing in Diamond/Pearl Single Battles. The movesets and EVs have been specifically calibrated to deal the most amount of damage to the largest group of potentially common opponents and typing threats for the Diamond/Pearl generation metagame.
Metagross is a decent Steel and Psychic-typed Pokemon. Metagross is a common Pokemon to see in Generation 4. Metagross can usually be found in the OU tier (Overused). Metagross's only type-related weaknesses are Fire and Ground.

Metagross is a wonderful Physical Sweeper. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. With Clear Body, prevents other pokemon from lowering Metagross's stat stages.

♦ Meteor Mash is a physical STAB-boosted 100-base power Steel-type move (20% chance to raise your Metagross's attack by 1 stage).

Physical Sweeper Metagross (Clear Body)
Metagross is a pretty decent Physical Sweeper. It's goal is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. Life Orb boosts the power of Metagross's damaging moves by 1.3x but it then loses 1/10 its max HP immediately after the attack. With Clear Body, prevents other pokemon from lowering Metagross's stat stages. Ice Punch was added to provide additional threat coverage.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical 120-base power Normal-type move (has 1/3 recoil).
♦ Iron Head is a physical STAB-boosted 80-base power Steel-type move (30% chance to flinch the target).
♦ Zen Headbutt is a physical STAB-boosted 80-base power Psychic-type move (20% chance to flinch the target).
♦ Earthquake is a physical 100-base power Ground-type move (hits adjacent pokemon. power doubles on dig).

Metagross Physical Tank (Lando's Bane)
Metagross is an awesome Physical Tank. It's primary goal is to take a substantial amount of physical hits while dealing some decent damage. Choice Band will increase the damage of Metagross's physical moves by 1.5x at the cost of locking you into the first move you pick. With Clear Body, prevents other pokemon from lowering Metagross's stat stages. this is the only Pokemon that you will need to beat trainer Orlando. This is one of the best for scaling in the Pokemon tower/train.
