Tyranitar is an outstanding Rock and Dark-typed Pokemon. It's almost common to see Tyranitar show up as a Gold/Silver opponent. There were no known abilities back in the Gold/Silver Pokemon games. Tyranitar is weak to Bug, Fighting, Grass, Ground, Steel, and Water-typed attacks.
