The movesets and EVs are designed to maximize damage against common opponents and threats in the Red/Blue metagame. Check out the expert movesets below to boost your battle performance and dominate your opponents!
Moltres is here! This terrific Pokémon is Fire and Flying-typed and ready to shine! It's a sight to see Moltres out in the 1st generation battlefield. It deserves to see more play in the meta. There were no known abilities or equippable items back in the Red/Blue Pokémon games. It is weak to Electric, Normal, Rock, and Water-typed attacks. Discover how Moltres excels in battles with the movesets provided below.
Moltres is a legendary Physical Sweeper in single battles. It's goal is to take down the opponent's team with brute physical power. The original meta-game back in the RBY days was ridiculous. Remember prior to Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Double-Edge is a physical 100-base power Normal-type move (has 1/4 recoil). ♦ Hyper Beam is a physical 150-base power Normal-type move (can't move next turn if target or sub is not koed). ♦ Sky Attack is a physical STAB-boosted 140-base power Flying-type move (charges turn 1. Hits turn 2). ♦ Peck is a physical STAB-boosted 35-base power Flying-type move that deals damage. ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target). ♦ Reflect is a status move (while active, your Moltres's defense is doubled).

Special Sweeper Moltres (Retro)
Moltres is a legendary Special Sweeper in single battles. It was designed to take down the opponent's team with high-damaging special attacks. The original meta-game back in the RBY days was ridiculous. Before Generation IV, a move's damage category was determined by its type.
♦ Fire Blast is a special STAB-boosted 120-base power Fire-type move (30% chance to burn the target). ♦ Fire Spin is a special STAB-boosted 15-base power Fire-type move (prevents the target from moving for 2-5 turns). ♦ Toxic is a status move (badly poisons the target). ♦ Reflect is a status move (while active, your Moltres's defense is doubled). ♦ Whirlwind is a status move (no competitive use).

Note: The damage listed here under Versus is not actually calculated using the in-game damage formula. It is simply calculated using typing weaknesses and resistances from the selected type-matchup modifier along with STAB (if applied) to help sort through and give a general idea as to how powerful certain moves might be towards that selected typing after modifiers are applied. Several moves listed here may have additional effects that might alter actual damage output which are not factored on this specific list. Use damage calculators to find actual damage amounts.
